Mastervolt Whisper 3500 4KVA generator (with only 46 hours because of the solar panels) with sound enclosure and controls at lower helm. Anti-vibration mounts and wet exhaust make this a quiet generator.

Inverter/charger is a Mastervolt Mass/Combi 100 amp 2000 watt unit with Masterlink controller at lower helm. Backup Xantrex charger for redundancy.

Start battery and six 6-volt AGM house batteries, all new 2016. Teleflex hydraulic steering. Cummins engine is electronically-controlled, common-rail design. Smart Craft digital monitor in pilothouse and analog gauges at the flybridge.

The engineroom is accessed from opening deck hatches or from a watertight door in the day head. There is a massive amount of storage space in the after engineroom. Access around the engine makes service easy. The engineroom is nicely finished including deck plates and a workbench / tool storage cabinet.

Spectra Santa Cruz 380C watermaker with dual pumps -- 8 gph with one pump running and 16 gph with two.

Two solar panels installed atop the pilothouse -- an excellent location for sun exposure and to minimize their visual impact. Solar booster system optimizes energy conversion.

Many of the interior lights, plus the anchor light are LED for low electrical draw.

New bottom paint and anodes June 2020 (see photo).. Hull waxed June 2020.

Heavy hand-laid fiberglass solid hull construction. Vinylester resins used in the outer layers to help prevent blistering. Epoxy barrier coating and hull paint below waterline. Integral grid structure is designed to provide a very sturdy hull with little flexing, as evidenced by the nearly total absence of gel coat cracks around the boat. The hull is painted with Sterling linear polyurethane paint.

All handrails are of double-rung design for safety, and are welded and beautifully polished.

Window frames are powder coated aluminum and show no signs of corrosion.

Deck hardware is sturdy and high-quality stainless steel with no corrosion and little evidence of staining.

FRP fuel and holding tanks. Stainless steel water tanks.

Boarding astern is from a large swim platform though the transom door. The covered cockpit is large enough for several deck chairs. The sturdily-built wide sliding aft cabin door provides entry to the full-beam saloon, which is much larger than would be expected in a boat this size. The galley is forward starboard and features granite countertops, a large Norcold over/under refrigerator/freezer, Princess propane stove, and a microwave hidden in a cabinet. There is a filtered drinking water system powered with a foot pump for redundancy and convenience. Just aft of the galley is an open space with storage lockers and space for a comfortable easy chair -- the chair shown in photos was new in 2019 and is included in the sale. To port in the salon is the convertible L-shaped dinette (which converts to queen berth) with a storage cabinet and countertop/bar forward of it. Just forward and down is the day head -- complete with shower capability -- and an entry into the engineroom.

The pilothouse is just two steps up from the salon and is not isolated as on many other pilothouse models. The L-shaped dinette allows three or four guests to enjoy the pilothouse while underway. The pilothouse settee converts to a single pilot berth. The helm station is to starboard, and features a sliding helm seat with a moveable bolster for leaning if desired. Forward visibility from the helm station is excellent, and because of the low pilothouse design it's possible to view the aft quarters directly from the helm seat also (unusual in a pilothouse model). Sliding pilothouse doors port and starboard allow easy access to the dock, the foredeck or to the flybridge.

Footwells with high bulwarks provide security when exiting the pilothouse, and the wide, full-size steps to the flybridge make access safe and easy. There are no vertical ladders!

The master cabin has a queen bed, hanging lockers port and starboard, six storage drawers, two storage cabinets, and separate head and shower compartments.

The flybridge has a pedestal helm seat and L-shaped settee with a small cocktail table. Newer custom cushions for the settee have been stored out of the weather. As with the entire exterior of the boat, the design of the flybridge is uncluttered and intended to be simple to maintain and easy to clean.

Cabin heat is provided by a Webasto diesel-fired forced air furnace. And for fresh air this boat has nine opening windows (including an opening windshield window), five opening stainless steel portlights, and two overhead hatches.

Custom leather upholstery was created for the salon and pilothouse settees.

Broker's Comments

This Helmsman Trawlers 38 Pilothouse is well-equipped and has low hours. Her exterior appears in excellent condition., and has been moored under cover during the current owners' care -- five years. The beautiful interior is equally clean and well-maintained.

Regular maintenance performed -- records available. New Inmar tender and Honda 20hp outboard added February 2017.

Originally imported and sold as a Mariner Yachts International 37 Seville Pilothouse, this model is the predecessor to the current Helmsman Trawlers 38 Pilothouse and is dimensionally equal.

This boat gives the impression of being much larger than its size implies with a very roomy interior and a design that includes a full-beam saloon, a day head, separate master head and shower compartments, and an extended pilothouse that actually serves as a comfortable living area in addition to its piloting function.

The quality of materials and construction are evident with teak and holly floors, beautiful teak joinery, heavy deck fittings and handrails, sturdy deck sections, and thick engine compartment sound insulation.

You'd be hard-pressed to fit more boat into a 40' slip. Its 480 hp electronically-controlled Cummins QSB 5.9 engine turns down nicely, and operates smoothly and quietly. She performs frugally at 7 or 8 knots, and has the power to get up and go when needed.

Compare this boat to a Nordic Tug 37 or 39, or to an American Tug 34, 365, or 395. You'll find that the Helmsman Trawlers is roomier, has a more finely-crafted interior, and is built to an impressive standard.

Excluded from the sale are the seller's personal items and artwork, and the kayaks shown incidentally in some photos.
