Heavy hand-laid fiberglass solid hull construction. Vinylester resins used in the outer layers to help prevent blistering. Epoxy barrier coating and hull paint below waterline. Integral grid structure is designed to provide a very sturdy hull with little flexing, as evidenced by the absence of gel coat cracks around the boat.
All handrails are of double-rung design for safety, and are welded and beautifully polished.
Deck hardware is sturdy and high-quality stainless steel.
FRP fuel and holding tanks. Stainless steel water tanks.
Bottom repainted 2018.
Waterline Boats / Boatshed does not independently verify capacities and measures, which are reported from seller-provided information and/or literature.

Board astern via a large swim platform with safety handrails (staples), though the transom door. The covered cockpit is large enough for several deck chairs and is enclosed by a high-quality removable enclosure which makes this a comfortable space in all seasons. Or board at the cockpit gunwales -- a moveable ladder has been installed to ease boarding. The lazarette below provides a large storage volume. Hawsecleats make for convenient attachment of mooring lines.
The sturdily-built wide sliding aft cabin door provides entry to the full-beam saloon, which is much larger than would be expected in a boat this size. The galley is forward starboard and features granite countertops, a 9 cu ft Novakool over/under refrigerator/freezer, and Princess Gourmet II propane range. A cabinet on the salon centerline provides additional pantry and storage space, and houses a microwave. Just aft of the galley is an open space with storage lockers and a comfortable chair. To port in the salon is the convertible L-shaped dinette (which converts to queen berth) with a storage cabinet and countertop/bar forward of it. Just forward and down is the day head -- complete with shower capability -- and an entry door into the engineroom.
The pilothouse is just two steps up from the salon and integrated into the living spaces. The L-shaped dinette allows three or four guests to enjoy the pilothouse while underway. A custom teak table -- larger than the standard table -- has been added to accommodate dining. The pilothouse settee converts to a single pilot berth. The helm station is to starboard, and features a Llebroc helm seat with a moveable bolster for leaning if desired, and pivoting arm rests -- very comfortable. Forward visibility from the helm station is excellent, and because of the low pilothouse design it's possible to view the aft quarters directly from the helm seat also (unusual in a pilothouse model). Sliding pilothouse doors port and starboard allow easy access to the dock, the foredeck or to the flybridge.
Footwells with high bulwarks provide security when exiting the pilothouse, and the wide, full-size steps to the flybridge make access safe and easy. There are no vertical ladders!
The master cabin has a queen bed with a custom latex mattress (not inexpensive!), hanging lockers port and starboard (with custom storage shelves built in), storage drawers, storage cabinets, bookshelves, and separate head and shower compartments.
The flybridge has two pedestal seats and an L-shaped settee with table. As with the entire exterior of the boat, the design of the flybridge is uncluttered and intended to be simple to maintain and easy to clean. There are canvas covers for the seating and the flybridge helm. A custom bimini top / radar arch using stainless steel tubing with Stamoid fabric is installed and very attractive.
Cabin heat is from a Webasto Air Top 5500 forced-air diesel-fired furnace. And for fresh air this boat has nine opening windows (including an opening windshield window), five opening stainless steel portlights, and two overhead hatches.
Masterflush heads. LED lighting.

VIRTUAL TOUR - VIDEO - 80 TO 100 PHOTOS - FULL SPECS CAN BE VIEWED OF THIS VESSEL!
This Helmsman Trawlers 38 Pilothouse is rich with features and added equipment. She has been enjoyed by her original owners who have adventured extensively, and has received loving care throughout their ownership. Her physical condition in every respect and in every compartment is outstanding. The champagne-colored exterior gel coat, both hull and topsides, is immaculate. And the beautiful interior is equally clean and well-maintained. This boat has been moored in fresh water, under cover, and appears -- really -- as new.
Special features include -- new 2019 Northern Lights 6 kw generator with very low hours, cockpit enclosure, custom bimini top with stainless steel frame and radar arch, Fusion stereo, AGM telecom-style house batteries, custom interior lighting, Llebroc high-backed helm chair, crane-style 600# davit system, Spectra watermaker, FLIR night vision camera, and a full suite of Garmin navigational electronics.
This boat seems much larger than its size implies with a very roomy interior and a design that includes a full-beam saloon, a day head, separate master head and shower compartments, and an extended pilothouse that serves as a comfortable living area in addition to its piloting function.
The quality of materials and construction are evident with teak and holly floors, beautiful teak joinery, heavy deck fittings and handrails, sturdy deck sections, and thick engine compartment sound insulation.
The Cummins QSB5.9-380 hp engine performs frugally at 7 or 8 knots, and has additional power when needed.
Photos depict some items incidentally which are not included in the sale: Life Sling, chest freezer, barbeque, kayaks, inflatable dinghy and motor, stern reel, cockpit furniture, salon ottomans, clock and barometer, custom flybridge table (which will be replaced with a teak table), rugs, and a variety of personal items.
These boat details are subject to contract.
